The Legend Of Splashes

A long, long time ago, in the great Mediterranean – where the Ancient Greeks ruled, myths and legends lived, and humans walked amongst the gods…

There lived a humble man in a small villa on the edge of the shore.  This man had a gift – his gift was to cook.  He could put together ingredients like a composer puts together the notes of a song – and in the same way, his recipes sang out glorious aromas of which the whole coast could hear.

The gods smiled upon this little villa – especially Poseidon, god of the Sea – he was so hypnotised by the artistic aroma that he would carry the waters higher up the shore just to get closer to the near godly smells bellowing from the man’s kitchen.

Every Sunday afternoon the humble man would invite his friends and family over to share in his delicious creations. He would lay out a spread fit for a king and his family and friends would stay for days eating, drinking and rejoicing in the man’s kindness and generosity.

However, Poseidon was a jealous god.  He did not think mere mortals were entitled to something of such godly worth and his anger grew increasingly each day.  The waters of the sea echoed Poseidon’s rage as the waves pounded against the shore.  Then one day the sky grew dark and the sea even darker as the water started to rise, and with one quick swoop the sea caught hold of the humble man, the mighty waves framing his fateful capture! He was to belong to Poseidon for the rest his mortal life.

Poseidon’s jealousy had been satisfied, the sea grew calm and the waves no longer splashed angrily against the shore.  The humble man who brought so much joy and comfort was gone…

The gods smiled no more…but it would not be this way for long.  In a mighty wave of power the gods swept down on the ruler of the sea and Zeus stepped forward.  Poseidon would not have his way and with one strike of his powerful lightning Zeus divided the sea.  Poseidon would no longer have control of the coastal waters and would be forced to wallow always in the depths of the ocean.

Zeus then carried the man up to his villa where once again he could fill the air with his sweet fragrances.  Zeus named his villa “∆εν βρÝθηκαν λÝξεις” which means Splashes of the Sea – for with the same splash that brought the humble man to his doom so he was restored. And the gods smiled once more…

Much has changed since the time of the gods–they are now only myths caught in a storm of controversy, however, the legend of Splashes still lives on carried by stories told from generation to generation.  It is a place where family and friends are welcome to enjoy the wonderful compositions of the dishes, which still play vibrantly upon the senses of all who visit this mystical place.
